Delaware

Delaware was founded in 1631 by Dutch settlers but the first perment settlement was done by Peter Minuit and the New Sweden company. Delaware or previously known as "New Sweden" was orginally part of New Netherland. This land was first owned by Charles II, the King of England and then later passed down to his brother, James, the Duke of York. Then shortly after he renamed it Delaware. In 1655, the Swedish ended their rule.

Delaware-

Native Americans called Lenni Lenape lived on the land of Delaware. At first they didn't mind to have the European settlers share land. The settlers gave them goods to pay for the land but they took them as gifts. This confusion caused war between the 2 groups. The tribe then moved farther away from their native land. More Americans were coming to explore the land. First Netherlands, dutch then Sweden. They all had their own land until the Revolutionary War in 1703. The colony was governed by Pennsylvania before and after the war. The colony fought for Independence to no longer be controlled by the Dutch, Swedish and English control.
